Elephun Wednesday

This week Elephun Wednesday is dedicated to everyone who has ever been forced to attend a completely pointless meeting.  We understand, believe me, we understand.

Happy Birthday, Babbit!!!

It's Babbit's birthday!!  Hooray!!  We are all very excited.  Mostly because it is an excuse to eat cake. Even though we are all trying to eat better you HAVE to eat cake when it is someone's birthday.  So we all got to eat cake.  Oh, yeah, and celebrate Babbit too.  Happy Birthday, Babbit!!

The Thingamabob Review

The Thingamabob by Il Sung Na

An elephant finds an umbrella and tries to figure out what it is.

When an elephant happens upon a thingamabob he tries everything to figure out what it is.  He tries to fly with it, sail with it and hide behind it.  But nothing is right until it starts to rain.  I think it would make a great read aloud book because I can see kids telling the silly elephant that he has got it wrong and answering him when he asks what this thingamabob could possibly be.  I can also see the Monkeys shouting things at the elephant as well but they would probably be words children shouldn't know.  I love the fun, whimsical illustrations.  And they add a great deal of humor to this story of curiosity and discovery

Elephun Wednesday

Isn't he cute?  Poor little guy looks like he got the short end of the stick in the trunk department. That's okay.  I hear size doesn't matter.

Elephun Wednesday

I don't know what was wrong with us this week.  Looking back it seems like it would be an easy week for Elephun Wednesday.  But we were a little off our game and were stuck for inspiration.  Luckily for us Fishy Fishy came along.  I don't know what we would have done without him.  So this elephant is raising a glass to Fishy Fishy.  Thanks for being our Elephun Wednesday muse.

Elephants in the Wild

Is it just me, or are elephants everywhere? It seems to me they are.  So I decided to start a new segment about elephants I come across in every day life.  The first is from a string of adds trying to get people to go to Kissimmee.  In Kissimmee (or, I guess, close to Kissimmee) you can fly on an elephant.  And who wouldn't want to do that? I know I wouldn't have stopped to even look at this add if it wasn't for the elephant.  So good job, Kissimmee.  Although I won't be going to Kissimmee, so sorry about that.  Anyway, keep a look out for elephants in your life.  They will brighten your day.  I know they do that for me.

Moving

Maaaaybe...

So things are starting to happen.  Little by little.  Changes you can actually see.  Just when we were beginning to think it would never happen.  And I'm still not positive I believe it.  But for the first time in a long time I actually believe that we will get our loading dock back. When is still up in the air.  We might make the two years yet. After a flurry of excitement and hurry things have slowed down again.  But progress has been made.  We are all very excited to get back into our home and settle in.  Which we have been guaranteed will happen by the end of February.  Wait.  What's the date?  Never mind.  We are all trying to be positive so we will not go into that.  Loading dock here we come.

Kudos

This is long overdue.  But I thought it was fitting to wait until the long trial was over.  And since his part is pretty much done now I wanted to acknowledge the outstanding job the little elevator has done over the last 22 months.  It has gone above and beyond trying to move everyone and everything.  Sure, it had a couple of bad days, and it took a few days off, but then who didn't?  It has been banged around, abused and sworn at but it has served us well.  Hopefully with the lighter work load he can finally get some much needed rest.  Thank you for your valiant efforts.  We, quite literally, couldn't have done it without you.

It's the Small Things

This is our table.  We love our table.  It is rather worrying how excited we are about our table.  It is all shiny and clean.  It is the prettiest thing shipping has ever seen.  We are all looking forward to the day we get to use our table.  No one but the Shipping Monkeys can understand how happy we are every time we see this table.  It doesn't take much to make us happy.  We take joy in the small things.  Which is good for us.  Because that's usually all we get.

Elephun Wednesday

This week our Elephun Wednesday picture is a two-fer.  Mostly it is a tribute to Bee Hee and his upcoming trip.  He says he doesn't get angry when getting ready to go on vacation but we have all met him and find that hard to believe.  It is also a metaphor for how we feel in shipping right now.  With all that is going on we are trying to cram too much stuff into too little space.  I know I would like to stomp on a few things myself.

More Pizza

You can never have too many good pizza places so it is the goal of the Shipping Monkeys to try as many as possible.  This time it is Crush.  They cook the pizzas in a 900 degree oven for 90 seconds.  So if you are in a hurry it's a good place for lunch.  The other Monkeys had tried it before and given it rave reviews but this was my first taste.

Everyone liked that it was cooked until the edges are black and crunchy.  Bee Hee went on and on about the great basil taste.  (And you doesn't like basil?)  Danny...Boy said the pepperoni was awesome because it was cooked until it was crispy.  The others liked it enough to get it several times when there are a lot of pizza places we have liked in the past.  So I knew it had to be good.

The pizzas are small so we had to get a lot of them to feed us all.  We got a pepperoni, two pepperoni and ricotta (personally, I thought the way they put the ricotta on was unappetizing), a spinach, tomato and feta, a tomato and pesto, a pepper and onion, and a roasted red pepper.  And there were seven of us (we had a special guest for this lunch, Burke.)  So we ate almost a pizza each because there were only three pieces left over.

It was very good.  I don't think I was as impressed as the other Monkeys.  Maybe I was expecting too much since they had talked it up.  From the toasted edge of the crust I expected the bottom to be crisp as well and it was not.  I liked the whole basil leaves and the crispy pepperoni just as advertised.  It is good pizza and stands up to the other pizza we have approved in the past but I do not think it is better than the others.

I would like to try the chicken wings some time.  I bet chicken wings cooked in a 900 degree oven would be really good.

Elephun Wednesday

This little guy heard one of our drivers had a flat tire and is running to the rescue.  He is also good at getting lug nuts off, which is a skill that might come in handy.
